Herford/Weinheim (va). Cranes are still lifting heavy glued laminated timbers through the air above the site. Currently the 10,300 qm distribution center of the logistics expert Trans-O-Flex is being built next to the Laarer Straße in Diebrock - creating 70 new jobs for Herford.

Yesterday, Mayor Bruno Wollbrink inspected the progress being made on site.

Trans-O-Flex of Weinheim decided on Alba Herford Invest GmbH for realisation of its new transhipment terminal, with 100 loading bays.

Alpha Industrial from Cologne and Barwood from Great Britain are investing 11.4 million Euro in the project, which will later be rented to Trans-O-Flex. As Jörg Schröder, Chief Executive of Alpha Industrial says: "This is our first project with Trans-O-Flex in Germany. In implementing the project, we are particularly putting our faith in service providers here in the town or the surrounding region." Even when we commissioned a notary public with the planning applications. And in this respect particularly, Schröder is full of praise for Herford: "From submitting the application, it took just one week for the planning permission to come through. That really is a first."

The company Depenbrock Bau Gruppe from Bielefeld, with its local presence, was selected as general contractor. This family firm is one of the leading construction companies in Germany and is active all over the country. Schröder: "And the order for the survey went to the Herford engineering consultancy Elschen." "The support we offer industry and commerce is bearing fruit and Herford is an attractive location", said Bruno Wollbrink during his visit. In recent years more than 180,000 square metres of land for industrial use have been sold. Four new companies have settled in Herford. Trans-O-Flex, which is three-quarter owned by the Austrian postal service, is particularly prominent because of its financial stature and the extensive geographical scale of its operations.

Rudolf Holbach, project manager of the logistics company, explains why Herford was chosen: "The proximity to the motorway was of particular importance for us. From here, we distribute in an area reaching from Espelkamp to Brilon and from Minden to Lippstadt. Our sorting plant, which cost 2.5 million Euro, also comes from the region." The supplier: Budde of Bielefeld.
